District 28 completed implementation of an instructional technology initiative, Learning First, in the 2020-21 school year, which completed a transformation to a one-to-one iPad environment, for all students in kindergarten through 8^th grade.

Students in 5^th through 8^th grade have the option to bring home their devices to complete homework assignments and work on projects. The district devices have a comprehensive Internet filtering system active on the device even outside of school.

The Learning First Goals are created to build and strengthen students’ abilities in critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creation through deep learning of content and effective use of technology by:

1. Increasing student opportunities to effectively use digital tools to present evidence of learning
2. Infusing the district’s curricula with innovative technological practices
3. Teaching our students to be safe, respectful, and reflective users of technology
4. Designing professional learning opportunities for staff to learn about innovative instructional practices
5. Building parental knowledge through education programs tailored to their needs
6. Developing a multi-year plan to fund and sustain the initiative. 

Technology Acceptable Use Expectations

All students and visitors are expected to use technology devices, the network, and their resources with appropriate etiquette and respect for people and property. The district network, hardware, and software, collectively known as District Technology, are designed to facilitate the exchange of information for the academic, educational, and research purposes of the school community. District Technology may not be used for private commercial purposes or personal entertainment. Students who abuse technology privileges may face disciplinary action including, but not limited to, exclusion of technology privileges over a designated period of time, paying to repair or replace damaged District Technology, and/or reimbursing the district for unauthorized electronic commerce.                                            

Students may not engage in activities that:

• Interfere with the ability of others to learn or use District Technology;
• Use District Technology for illegal purposes or for unauthorized access to systems, software, data, or websites;
• Maliciously attempt to harm, destroy, or alter the data of another user;
• Engage in electronic commerce;
• Do not meet the purposes of District Technology discussed above;
• Do not align with the Responsible Use Expectations for Technology (found in the link below).
